This role involved supporting staff to deliver our well-being programmes for young people aged 8 - 17 years and 16- 25 years old through our BeOk and our Children & Young People's Service (CYP) across West Sussex
The Peer Volunteer role is a specific and specialist volunteer role within West Sussex Mind. The Peer Volunteer uses their lived experience, gained through navigating their own mental health journey to work in partnership, as equals with service users, to enable them to achieve their goals. A Peer Volunteer ensures the value of lived experience is reflected in the planning and delivery of services.
What's involved?
Volunteering at least 2 hours a week (can be more according to preference) alongside the BE OK and CYP SP Team to help with one or more of the following:
- To gain confidence and possibly become a peer group leader for peer support groups
- Opportunities to support young people one to one to access supports or attend appointments
- To have the opportunity to develop the skills to support others in a 1:1 setting and to be part of their journey to recovery, by reviewing their support plans.
Location of role to be discussed at interview - varied between WS Mind buildings in Littlehampton, Worthing or Southwick
What skills and personal qualities are required?
- That you are practical, caring, considerate of others and patient.
- That you are a confident communicator with good listening skills.
- Organised and able to take accurate notes.
- Have an enthusiasm for working with young people
- To respect the confidential nature of the service and maintain an appropriate professional attitude and boundaries
- That you have an understanding or lived experience of mental health needs.
Training and full induction will be provided as well reimbursement of expenses as per our Volunteer Policy.
