Phone and face-to-face befriending volunteer

An opportunity to use your people skills and gain experience in a highly responsible and vital role, either over the phone or face-to-face

You will be supporting older people with mild to moderate mental health needs, those who are isolated or who may have lost confidence, for example, following bereavement or illness. The role of “befriender” is very special. You will be closely monitored, guided, and supported to carry out this important volunteer role, strictly following West Sussex Mind’s policies and procedures.

Main skills needed: great communication and people skills over the phone or in person; non-judgemental, patient and understanding; confidentiality.

Locations and times: as mutually agreed between service user, supervisor and you - mostly during normal office hours but scope for evening and weekends as the service develops
