Parents and Carers Mental Health Project Peer Support Worker

We have an exciting new opportunity for a peer support worker to support our project lead to develop and provide a new service providing peer support to parents and carers who are caring for children and young people (primary and secondary aged) with emotional and mental health problems.

Salary: £9,870.12 per annum based on 18.5 hours per week (£10.26 per hour)

Hours: 18.5 hours per week to be worked Tuesday - Thursday

Fixed term contract until the end of March 2023

Location: Based in Southwick with some home working and travel across West Sussex


For this role we are looking for individuals with their own lived experience as a parent supporting a child/young person with emotional and mental health problems. You will be willing to share and use your own lived experience to provide peer support to other parents.

You will be skilled and confident in setting up and leading groups and possess good communication skills. As part of the role, you will also regularly update and moderate a group Facebook page, produce a mail-chimp newsletter and provide some peer support on a 1:1 basis.

There are no formal qualifications required for this role but evidence of learning and development around mental health and/or peer support or mentoring is desirable.

The project aims to:

  • Increase the confidence, knowledge, skills and ability of parents to support their children
  • Support parents around their own well-being and increase their resilience to continue supporting their children
  • Signpost parents/carers to other sources of support
  • Develop the giving and receiving of peer support for parents

The successful candidate will be based at our Southwick office and the role will involve some homeworking. You will also be required to travel across West Sussex to facilitate peer support groups.
