Merger with the Corner House, Southwick

Two chairs of mental health charities

West Sussex Mind chair Sally Lefroy with the Corner House chair, Denise Carroll

West Sussex Mind and the Corner House, Southwick, which is run by Shoreham District Mental Health Association (SDMHA) merged on October 1, strengthening mental health support services for people in the Worthing and Adur areas.

The two charities together will soon be changing their name to West Sussex Mind. Both organisations already work together as both are part of Pathfinder West Sussex, the county’s alliance of mental health providers.

Christine, from Lancing, who has received support at Corner House for 10 years and also works as a peer supporter for Capital project, is one of four trustees from Corner House joining Coastal West Sussex Mind’s board.

She said: “Corner House is a lovely place and has done some remarkable things. This merger is really positive because it will benefit people with mental health problems in Adur and Worthing.”

There will be significant benefits to local people including:

  • Less complex services for the people seeking help
  • More seamless support for those in Worthing town centre and East Worthing who could get help at both town centre and Corner House venues
  • Sharing expertise
  • A more secure service
  • Management efficiencies, meaning more time spent supporting people.
