More than 50 West Sussex runners gathered early on Sunday morning to complete the yearly 10k race.
West Sussex Mind was lucky enough to be one of the two chosen charities. I was at the run, meeting our supporters and taking photographs. Being a runner myself, I was proud to be at the event, talking to WS Mind fundraisers and witnessing the pure determination of everyone at the event.
8:59 AM – one minute to go. Anticipating the go ahead from the organisers. Runners at the ready, preparing themselves for the race ahead. The frontline made up of the athletic individuals, hoping to win first place. Friends and family cheering on from the side of the street. 3… 2… 1… GO!
The 10 kilometre course took a tour along marine parade, heading west towards Ferring, detouring inland and taking a full circle back to the finish line on the sea front.
Chichester District Council employees were proud to be supporting West Sussex Mind. It was not the first time they had fundraised for WS Mind and throughout the last year they had held cake sales as well as doing collections. One employee dressed in a bright green wig and multi-coloured crinoline skirt said he was running the race for fun and to raise awareness on World Mental Health Day. In total the fundraisers from the race raised over £1,700 for West Sussex Mind.
At the finish line, the atmosphere was incredibly supportive. The crowd clapped, cheered and motivated the runners at the final sprint.
West Sussex Mind would like to thank all the runners who fundraised for us and the event organisers for choosing us as one of the race charities.
