Join us for a fundraising abseil at Peacehaven Cliffs

August 2023

There’s nothing like the thrill of a controlled descent of a steep slope. This October, we're asking the public to join us for an exciting fundraising event that will see first-timers and veterans alike rappelling 90ft down the face of a seaside cliff!

Please get the date in your diary! On Saturday 7 October 2023, we are holding a sponsored abseiling event in partnership with Safe in Sussex. Participants will be given the chance to descend the chalk face of Peacehaven Cliffs, a lovely location with great views of the coastline. Whether you’re after a shot of adrenaline or looking to fulfil a lifelong ambition, now’s your chance!

Of course, you’ll also be raising vital funds for two important local charities.

At West Sussex Mind, we support people with their mental health and campaign to reduce stigma and promote understanding. We offer advice and support to improve people's physical and mental well-being, with the aim of strengthening their self-esteem, confidence and relationships. We also help people get into education, training or work and achieve their personal and social goals. We're an independent charity and receive no funding from the national Mind charity.

Our partner at this event is Safe in Sussex, a local charity that provides help and support for people affected by domestic abuse. The sad reality is that one in four women and one in six men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

Safe in Sussex helps people affected by domestic abuse. It was founded as Worthing Women’s Aid in 1977 by a group of women who helped local people experiencing abuse by offering them refuge. Its services include four confidential refuges, dispersed accommodation flats as places of refuge, and several education and outreach programmes, including Hope2Recovery, the Freedom Programme and The Recovery Toolkit, along with an outreach service offering one-to-one support services.

Louise Gisbey, Safe in Sussex’s deputy CEO, said: “It is so great to be partnering with another wonderful local charity to raise much needed funds, so that together we can continue to support clients. The abseil also gives the public a great opportunity to do something that might be on their bucket list or to challenge themselves this year.”

Tickets for the event are £40. This is based on a minimum sponsorship expectation of £100 per person. If there are two or more participants from the same family, the minimum sponsorship expectation is £80 per person. All participants must be 18 or over. Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as there are only 50 spaces.

If you are able to help, please register for the event here.
