Our social media community guidelines

Here are some guidelines for you when interacting on our social media channels and some information about our community management

We ask you to follow the guidelines below when interacting on our Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or YouTube channels:

  • Be respectful of others and their opinions
  • Debate kindly and do not make personal attacks in your comments
  • Do not post content that is discriminatory, obscene, inflammatory, harrassing, hateful, threatening, profane or personally abusive
  • Do not post anything that could be libellous or defamatory. If an accusation is made against a named person, for example, a member of our staff, we will hide it
  • Do not post content with explicit or technical detail or referencing self-harm or suicide
  • Do not post adverts for commercial products or services
  • Do not post repeatedly about issues that are off-topic, ie spam
  • Avoid sharing medical advice and focus on sharing techniques and practical tools that have supported your recovery.

What do we mean by discriminatory?

We won’t tolerate content that is:

  • Ableist
  • Ageist
  • Antisemitic
  • Biphobic
  • Homophobic
  • Islamophobic
  • Racist
  • Sexist
  • Transphobic
  • Xenophobic
  • Or hateful in any way.
  • Even if a comment is not intended to be any of these things, if someone takes offence, their feelings are valid. We will decide whether comments fall into any of these categories and our decision about whether or not to hide it is final.

Note that our social media channels are not a crisis service and our moderators are not trained mental health professionals. If you're not feeling safe, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option or call the Samaritans (116 123 / jo@samaritans.org). If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or go to your nearest A&E department.

Our channels are moderated during office hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We will do our best to moderate harmful comments as quickly as possible.

If you see something on our social media that doesn't seem right, or makes you feel uncomfortable, try to make us aware if you feel able to do so. Email communications@westsussexmind.org.

We have a complaints policy. You can find more about the policy and how to make a complaint here
