Appeal for volunteers to join us

September 2021

Could you run a podcast? Or organise walks in the country? Or have a friendly chat on the phone? If so, West Sussex Mind would like to hear from you

This month we are launching a recruitment drive for volunteers with an exciting range of opportunities.

We are looking for dedicated people to fill seven specific roles:

  • Podcast Series Development Volunteer
  • Befriender Volunteers
  • Meetings Minute Taker Volunteer
  • Online Selling Community Fundraising Volunteer
  • Social and Leisure Activities Volunteer
  • Help Point Volunteer
  • Activities and Events Volunteer

West Sussex Mind runs over a dozen groups based around activities including art, poetry, walking, mindfulness and quizzes. These groups provide a structure for social interaction as well as a positive diversion for service users. During the pandemic all the regular groups went online, but the charity is now taking a blended approach, keeping the Zoom groups going while reintroducing some face-to-face activities. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate both physical and virtual groups.

For some, like Tanya, volunteering is a chance to make a real difference: “I enjoy it because being able to help other people and using my negative experiences in a positive way really helps me feel like I’m making an impact.”

I’d recommend you go for it. Just reach out, have that conversation. I promise you: you will not regret it.

In recent years an increasing number of people have been turning to West Sussex Mind for mental health support. During 2020-2021, the charity supported 4,761 people. All this was possible due to the dedication and hard work of its volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact rosemarie.hegarty@westsussexmind.org or visit https://www.westsussexmind.org/get-involved/volunteer-with-us.

We are also holding volunteer recruitment events at the Assembly Room in Chichester (Sept 17th) and at the Grange in Midhurst (Sept 19th). All are welcome. Find out more about the day at the Grange here.
